Who GOS is for — and who it is not for

GOS is for owners and head-office leadership who want work done, not just advised on: foreign companies entering or running a Japan entity, and Japanese companies that need an accountable outside team for accounting, supply chain or general management. We work best where the decision-maker wants to see the numbers every month.

GOS is not for organisations that want a report without execution, or that need the figures kept away from their own decision-makers. In those cases we are the wrong firm, and we will say so at the first conversation.

Are your fees expensive?

We calculate an appropriate fee for each engagement and each client based on the scope of work, with care taken to keep the burden as low as possible. As a result, most clients tell us the service is good value for the outcome delivered.

Fees begin only once you have reviewed the job definition and the quotation and signed the engagement. The initial conversation costs you nothing but time.

How is this different from temporary staffing?

Staffing sends you a person. GOS takes on the work itself. Once the job is defined and reviews are scheduled, detailed day-to-day supervision is not required.

Because GOS experts are not your employees, we can cover entry-level, managerial and executive-level work at the same time, without concern for internal hierarchy.

How is this different from a consulting firm?

On strategy and analysis we are alike: GOS also draws on the latest management theory and AI to find the best answer for management and the supply chain. The difference is what happens next. We do not leave a report behind and walk away. We work through the decision with management, our seasoned operators carry out the work, and we take P&L accountability for the result.

The management thinking is backed by our managing director’s MBA and his role as General Manager, Asia of The Alpha Group (TAG), the owner-executive advisory board operated by Noble Manhattan Coaching, one of the world’s leading executive-coaching organisations.

How is this different from a tax accounting firm?

GOS includes professionals who have run private companies for many years alongside accounting and finance specialists. Beyond bookkeeping and monthly closing, we propose how the numbers translate into near-term forecasts and what management decisions follow, then execute the work resulting from those decisions.

Tax filing itself is handled by our partner tax accountants.

What are the benefits of outsourcing to GOS?

You resolve management issues that are hard to solve alone — more easily, faster, and with less cost and effort. In particular:

  • We build, from inside your company, the operational foundation needed to keep going
  • You gain the practical know-how of stable management without paying for it through failure
  • Operations become more efficient, so the owner can concentrate on running the business
Will this increase our daily workload?

The opposite. Efficiency improves, so the burden generally decreases. The scale of the effect depends on the situation, but we stay alongside you until the measures introduced are genuinely in use. To date, close to nine in ten clients have told us the engagement was the right decision.

Are there cases you decline?

Rarely. We decline or discontinue only where the information provided turns out to differ from the facts, where conduct is contrary to good faith, or where the situation cannot be addressed through consultancy.

What kinds of companies use GOS?

Two kinds, mainly. Companies building, fixing or handing over a business in Japan — foreign-owned entities and Japanese companies approaching succession. And companies that want a whole managed function taken off their hands: accounting, HR, or supply chain planning.

What they share is a decision-maker who wants to see the numbers every month. Where the figures must stay hidden, we are the wrong firm.

How long does an engagement last?

It depends on the scope, but contracts carry no minimum period and no fixed term — notice only. Most commonly we resolve the immediate issue and then continue as an ongoing operating partner.

How do you divide work with tax accountants and lawyers?

Each profession has its own exclusive legal remit. We introduce a tax accountant for tax filings, a labour and social security attorney for labour matters, a lawyer for restructuring and succession, and an administrative scrivener for work permits and visa status — so you do not need to find them yourself.

Once management has received their advice and reached a decision, GOS executes the resulting work.

How do we start?

Contact us through the enquiry form. We will listen in detail to your current operations, the issues you face and the support you need, then propose a job definition and a quotation. Fees begin only once you sign.

Start by reading one report.

Choose from three: supply chain (inventory, service, forecast), financial (margin, collection, cash) or management review (strategy to this month’s decisions). Each runs to six pages: an eight-KPI summary, three findings with what each one costs, and three next actions. Synthetic data — no client figures — but the structure and the KPI definitions are the ones we use.
